CARNIVAL PAYOUT HIT BY SUMMER STORM

Donations totalling £7,625 have been handed over to more than 40 local charities and organisations by the Clacton Carnival Association, monies raised from our Carnival Week in August this year. The payout was well down this year due to the torrential downpour on the night of the Fete and Fireworks which unfortunately had to be cancelled. This is normally the biggest fund-raising event of the week.

All the cheques were presented by the Clacton Carnival Princesses, Abbie Mills and Cherice Symes, at a Presentation Evening on Thursday 20th October held at the Clacton County High School.

A cheque for £1,500 was given to ‘Inclusion Ventures’ who were chosen, earlier in the year, to be the beneficiary of the Carnival Procession. This is a locally based charity set up to improve the lives of vulnerable young people from the most disadvantaged areas of West Clacton.

The 2 organisations who work in partnership with the Carnival Association were each presented with a cheque for their 50% share of the profits.  The Lions Club of Clacton received £2,243 from the joint venture of producing the Clacton Carnival Newspaper and the 1st Clacton Scouts received £257, their 50% share from their catering marquee at 3 of the Carnival events.

Further cheques were handed over ranging from £50 - £250 (see below).

John Sowton, Chairman of the Carnival Association, said “Despite having to cancel the Fete and Fireworks event due to the awful weather on the Thursday, we are still able to make good donations to many worthy causes. I would like to thank all the Committee for their hard work and all the Sponsors and Organisations for your continuous support of the Carnival’s activities; without your help Carnival Week just would not happen.”
