CARNIVAL CHARITY SEARCH

The Clacton Carnival Committee has been busy thinking ahead and carefully planning our fun-packed Carnival Week in August, which has a change to the usual programme of events to avoid clashing with the final weekend of the Olympic Games.

We are now looking for a Clacton based charity or organisation which is needing funds of up to £4,000 for a project which will directly benefit people locally, to be the Main Charity for the Carnival Procession which will now be at the end of Carnival week on Saturday 18th August, although the payout will not be until October.

Last year £1,500 was given to Inclusion Ventures, a locally based charity set up to improve the lives of vulnerable young people in West Clacton. In the past few years the Carnival Committee have supported many other local groups with monies from the Procession:- Clacton and District Occupational Workshop, RNLI, St Helena Hospice Day Centre, Clacton Maternity Unit, to name but a few.

For full details of how to be considered for the main charity please write to the Carnival Secretary, Ms Angela Theobald, c/o 2 Albany Gardens, Clacton on sea, Essex C015 6HW . Full details of the criteria are also available on our website. All applications need to be in by Monday 20th February.

Carnival 2012 actually gets underway with a Quiz Night, with local Quizmaster Adrian Robinson, on Friday 10th February at St James’ Church Hall, Clacton to raise funds for the dresses for this year’s Carnival Queen and her 2 Princesses who will be chosen later in the Spring.  To book in for the Quiz please phone 01255 426262 or e-mail:- entry@quizline.org.uk.
