PAYOUT
FROM SUMMER CARNIVAL TO LOCAL GROUPS
Donations
totalling £10,276.50 have been handed over to more than 40 local charities and
organisations by the Clacton Carnival Association, monies raised from our
Carnival Week in August this year. Despite having to re-arrange our Carnival
week events and losing one event because of the clash with the Olympic Games the
payout was very good.
All the
cheques were presented by the Clacton Carnival Queen, Emma Rayment, and her
Princesses, Kerry-Alice Hartnett and Zoe Pemberton at a Presentation Evening on
Thursday 25th October held at the Clacton County High School.
In line with
the Summer 2012 celebrations, cheques for £2012 were presented to the 2 main
charities to benefit from the Carnival Procession; The Friends of the West Cliff
Theatre to help with the refurbishment of the seats in the West Cliff Theatre
and the Tendring District Scouts to help equip their new District Headquarters
nearing completion in Valley Road, Clacton.
The 2
organisations who worked, once again, in partnership with the Carnival Committee
were each presented with a cheque for their 50% share of the profits.
The Lions Club of Clacton received £2,087.50 from the joint venture of
producing the Clacton Carnival Newspaper and the 1st Clacton Scouts
received £240, their 50% share from their catering marquee at 2 of the Carnival
events.
Further
cheques were handed over ranging from £75 - £350.
Paul Townend,
Chairman of the Carnival Association, said “Despite having to re-arrange
Carnival Week and lose one event because of the Olympic Games, we are still able
to make really good donations to many worthy causes. I would like to thank all
the Committee for their hard work and all the Sponsors and Organisations for
their continuous support of the Carnival’s activities; without your help
Carnival Week just would not happen and we hope it continues for many years to
come. Next year, the Clacton
Carnival Association is celebrating its 60th Anniversary and the year
will start with a Celebration Dinner in February and we are planning to
revitalise Carnival Week and to get everyone in the Town involved.”
