Rain Washes out Carnival Fete and Fireworks

Torrential rain forced us to cancel our Mammoth Fete and Firework Spectacular on the Thursday night of our Carnival week in August. The last time this happened was nearly 20 years ago in 1992.

It takes many long hours of preparation over many months to prepare all the sideshows and find more than 100 people to run them.  Also it takes many hours to set up and prepare the Sportsground for this major fund-raising event of our Carnival week.

We were absolutely devastated when the rain just would not stop that evening and we had to make the decision to cancel the whole event.  Incredibly most of the volunteers who offered to run the sideshows, all from local organisations, turned up prepared for the weather in their anoraks and wellies to set up hoping the rain would stop. It was so disheartening but after a while it was obvious that the event just could not go on.

Hopefully we will be able to recover some of the costs as Kimbolton Fireworks were not even able to set up the firework display because of the rain.

Everyone was hugely disappointed as this is the biggest and most spectacular event of our Carnival Week each year.
